Big Game Hunting Top 100

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is responsible for border and port of entry activities. Check the CBSA Web site for information about entering Canada. The CBSA site includes information on programs to make crossing the Canada-U.S. border more efficient.

Below is a list of general guidlines for entering Canada

  • you must be in good health, law-abiding and have enough money to support yourself and your dependents during your stay;
  • in most cases, you will need a valid passport, proof of identity or other travel documents;
  • you must get a special authorization if you are coming to study or work;
  • you must have a visitor's visa to travel to Canada if you are a citizen of one of a number of countries. Click here to find out if you will need a visa before leaving home. (this does not apply to citizens of the United States)
  • Before leaving home, you should also get a health insurance plan to pay for any hospital or medical services you may need while in Canada.

Criminal Inadmissibility

This information is intended for general guidance and reference only. A legal decision on your inadmissibility can only be made at the time you seek entry into Canada either through an application or at a port of entry.


Whether you are planning to visit, work, study or immigrate, if you have committed or been convicted of a criminal offence, you may be prohibited from entering Canada.

Depending on the nature of the offence, the time elapsed and your behaviour since it was committed or since you were sentenced, you may no longer be considered inadmissible to Canada. You may be permitted to come to Canada if ;
  • you are able to satisfy an immigration officer that you meet the legal requirement to be deemed rehabilitated; or
  • you have applied for rehabilitation and your application has been approved; or
  • you have obtained a pardon; or
  • you have obtained a temporary resident permit.
